Rail
Canada Volume 2 is a dandy collection of painting information on Canadian railroads other
than the Canadian National or Canadian Pacific. Author Don Lewis has compiled a fine
selection of material to produce excellent paint diagrams for a wide variety of
locomotives. The work is divided by railroad or service organization. All the known paint
jobs for each type of locomotive used are then shown.
One can find information on the Pacific Great Easter/British Columbia Ry., British
Columbia Hydro Ry., White Pass & Yukon Ry., Northern Alberta Ry., Algoma Central Ry.,
Ontario Northland Ry., GO Transit, Toronto, Hamiltyon & Buffalo Ry., Cartier Ry.,
Quebec, North Shore & Labrador Ry., Wabush Lake Ry., Arnaud Ry., Burlington Northern
RR.(in British Columbia), Amtrak (in Canada) and the Consolided Bathurst and Canadian
Forest Products industrials.
In addition, updated data on the Canadian National VIA rail equipment appears, along
with bicentennial paint diagrams for CN's subsidiary lines in the United States: Duluth,
Winnipeg & Pacific, Grand Trunk Western, and Central Vermont. All of this information
covers 126 pages. An additional 16 pages of locomotive rosters and an index complete the
book.
The book is done in a vertical 8.5" x 11" format with a soft cover. Each
paint job is shown with a diagram outline (scaled about 75 percent of HO size) of the
locomotive side elevation plus both ends. A variety of notes and critical dimensions are
included to make layout easy. The various colors are shaded with different line patterns
and a good selection of color photographs is included. Sixteen pages are printed in full
color. All of the printing work is excellent.
Overall, this is an excellent follow up to the author's first book covering the CN
locomotives. It is well thought out with the modeler in mind, and it includes just about
everything one might need to paint models properly. Anyone modeling Canadian equipment
will find this to be a valuable resource item.
